Gentlemen,
I just talked with the Boulder coach a few minutes ago and due to the amount of snow they had yesterday and the rate it is melting the pitch will be unplayable and also Parks and Rec have closed all parks for the weekend. As it turns out now Winter is up 2-0 and looking at trying to win this season but we won't give up. The Boulder match will be rescheduled and along with that I am working on more matches for the entire team.
We do still plan to meet tomorrow and have an inter-squad scrimmage on the practice pitch to get some time in playing rugby. Please plan on meeting out at the practice pitch at 10:30 a.m. so coaches can divide teams up for the scrimmage. We will have jersey's for both sides and make this as close as possible to a real match and plan on playing at least 3 20 minute halves. I will also have socks avaliable for players to pickup and would like to see as many as possible parents attend to be able to see rugby and ask questions. Our schedule is changing slightly and I will have more info on that on Saturday. THANKS!
Saturday's a Rugby Day!
Gday
GREG

Fort Collins played Chaparral on Saturday in there first home league match of the season and saw the score change hands as momentum changed from one side to the other with the final score of Chaparral 20 Fort Collins 15. Fort Collins started the match and immediately put pressure on Chaparral keeping the ball deep inside their territory. After several nice attempts to score Chaparral was caught offsides at the 10 minute mark of the match and Ethan Middleton hit the penalty kick to put Fort Collins up 3-0. After the kickoff Fort Collins moved back into Chaparral territory and with some great pressure near the goal line and a turnover Todd Oswald scored the try and with Ethan’s conversion the score was 10-0. Chaparral kicked off and stepped up the pressure and with pressure in Fort Collins territory was able to score a try to bring the score to 10-5 where it would stand at halftime. Second half saw a change in tactics by Chaparral and with just 3 minutes into the second half and up and under kick by Chaparral was caught by the fullback and he was able to race for a try and give Chaparral the first lead of the match at 12-10. Chaparral kept up the pressure with more kicks and with a penalty deep in Fort Collins territory they were able to make the penalty kick and extend the lead 15-10. Fort Collins didn’t let up and kept up the pressure with the match moving back and forth until a quick pick from the ruck by the scrum half and a run down the sidelines for the try put Chaparral up 20-10 with 7 minutes to go in the match. Fort Collins didn’t let up and put the pressure back on driving deep into Chaparral territory and with Mitch Yake crashing from 7 yards out Fort Collins tightened the lead to 20-15. In the final few minutes Fort Collins kept the pressure on Chaparral with some great runs but was unable to finish them off and at the final whistle it was Chaparral 20 and Fort Collins 15. |

On Saturday, March 8 Fort Collins Youth Rugby Boys took on Glendale rugby in a league match in the new Glendale Stadium before a near sell out crowd and came away with the victory 17-5 to even their league record at 1-1. Match started with great defense by Fort Collins keeping Glendale pinned deep in their end of the pitch and when Glendale tried to move the ball out from behind their own try line and made an error Todd Oswald fell on the ball to give Fort Collins the first points of the match at the 8:00 minute mark and with Ethan Middleton conversion they were up 7-0. Match moved back and forth down the pitch until around the 25:00 minute mark when a good drive by the forwards resulted in Alex Godin scoring the try and with Ethan’s conversion Fort Collins was up 14-0. In the final minute of play in the first half a penalty by Glendale resulted in a penalty kick by Ethan that put Fort Collins up at halftime 17-0. Second half saw Fort Collins keep on the pressure but due to some missed opportunities the score remained 17-0 for most of the match until Glendale was able to get the ball outside and score at the 27:00 minute of the mark to make the score 17-5. The rest of the match saw a lot of pressure on defense by Fort Collins that would result in turnovers by Glendale but Fort Collins was unable to capitalize on them and the final score was 17-5. |
